Centuries ago, Natla, Qualopec, and Tihocan were the triumvirate rulers of the technologically advanced continent of Atlantis. They wielded the power of the Atlantean Scion, an artifact of immeasurable power kept in three separate pieces, each entrusted to one of the rulers. Their harmonious reign did not last, however. Assessing Atlantis as a stagnant society on the verge of collapse, Natla developed a mad desire to invoke rapid evolution of the Atlantean race through experimentation. To that end, Natla stole the other pieces of the Scion and abused the power to create a 'superior' race of mutant beasts with the goal of destroying her fellow rulers and taking control of Atlantis. She repurposed a once-sacred Atlantean pyramid with the power of creation and transformed it into a factory of aberrations.

Natla was eventually captured by Qualopec and Tihocan for the misuse of her powers and for robbing them of theirs. She was condemned to an eternity within a cryonic freezing chamber. Atlantis never recovered from Natla’s wrongdoings, eventually collapsing and becoming lost to history. Qualopec and Tihocan journeyed into the wider world and settled in new locations. Qualopec traveled to Peru where he eventually died and was entombed in the city of Vilcabamba. Until Lara Croft’s intervention, Qualopec’s skeletal remains faced his piece of the Scion with two mummified, undead guards by his side.

Tihocan went west, his new goals still unknown. He hid Natla’s part of the Atlantean Scion in a remote part of ancient Egypt known as the City of Khamoon. Lara eventually discovered his own piece of the Scion deep under St. Francis’ Folly. The entrance to the tomb was guarded by two mutant Atlantean Centaurs.

Upon gaining her freedom, she adopted the name Jacqueline Natla and established Natla Technologies to finish what she had started all those centuries ago.
