Someone asked REALLY nicely about work in progress shots, so here you are...
As you can see, these things usually go through something of an evolution from start to finish. There's seldom a direct route to the designer or design team's vision and that's reflected in these shots. Of particular note, you can see a huge difference in the early development of Lara's face, as well as an eventual idealization of her figure. It's frequently remarked that often times the end result may not look entirely like the designer's concept sketch. Designers, development teams, and the sculptors will usually have numerous discussions and changes will be made that might pull away from initial concepts. Sometimes licensors (those that hold legal ownership of the character) may even require changes to be made that also draw away from the initial design. And lastly, sometimes it's decided that particular elements need to be changed due to production costs or they just don't work in three dimensions and may detract from the overall piece.

As always, I'd like to thank Adam Hughes and Sideshow Collectibles for the opportunity to work on such a special piece. This project was especially challenging but has also risen to the top of my favorite pieces to work on, and I'm very pleased with how she's turned out. I hope you all enjoy her as much as I do!
