Croft Couture #21: Marie
The Tomb Raider fandom is full of talented artists, entertainers, and perhaps most notably, phenomenal cosplay talent. “Croft Couture” aims to showcase these lovely and dedicated women, and give Lara costumers a spot to share their experiences while dressed as gaming’s leading lady.
One thing I really enjoy about Marie’s work is that she embraces the Top Cow Tomb Raider world, pulling together ensembles from Lara’s comic book exploits. Check out Marie’s portfolio of costumes above, and interview below!

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?
The first game – Tomb Raider I – was bought by my mother for my father the summer of 1998. We spent many moments together as a family trying to solve riddles. I immediately fell in love with Lara! She was beautiful, independent, and above all, an archeologist. Being an archeologist has been my dream since I was a child, even before I came to know her. I discovered Lara Croft cosplay with the website captain-alban.com. All these girls who made Lara Croft costumes impressed me. And two years ago, I said, why not me?
What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?
My first Lara’s outfit was the Tomb Raider Legend Classic. I selected this because it was a mix between TR Legend and the Classic outfit from the first Tomb Raider, two games I love.
What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?
I tried to make all the costumes based on the Tomb Raider comics. I love them all. Otherwise, I would like try to make my favorites outfits from the games : Nevada ensemble, Tibet and of course, the Classic.My favorite Lara Croft ensemble is and will always be the Classic outfit. It is remind me my childhood. But I also love the outfit in Nevada, Tibet, and the new outfit in TR Reborn with the aviator Jacket!
What Croft costumes are still on your roster?
I tried to make all the costumes based on the Tomb Raider comics. I love them all. Otherwise, I would like try to make my favorites outfits from the games : Nevada ensemble, Tibet and of course, the Classic.
Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?
The most difficult must be the outfit from Tomb Raider Underworld, with all details. But the Classic makes me afraid – with my point of view – this is THE outfit, the one and I would respect it at the maximum.
Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?
During my photoshoots, like all cosplayers, I try to find place that seems a lot like the games or the Comics. And I love to climb, swim, and jump in my shots so it seems as real as possible!
Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?
I’ve traveled to Italy, Germany, and had the luck to go to England. One day I hope to go to Cambodia and Nepal. This is my dream.
What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?
Lara is a strong woman. She is a model for a lot of women. I love her way of live as a solitary person, independent, who travels to practice her job. I am just a student in my last year but I dream to make my job in Cambodia.
